Overview
The Graduate School of Education offers a variety
of Master of Arts in Education degrees. Programs
of study vary depending on candidate pre-qualifications.
Master’s Degree Programs
All Master’s degree programs in the GSOE may be completed without pursuing a teaching or administrative credential. While most require 30 units of study, some emphasis areas include up to 54 units when combined with a credential program. All candidates who choose not to pursue a teaching or administrative credential complete the standard course of study to obtain the Master’s degree.
18 Unit Credential Completion Programs for California Credentialed Teachers
All California credentialed teachers and Touro University credential candidates are eligible to apply to participate in an 18 unit emphasis cohort program culminating in the Master of Arts in Education degree. These programs accept 12 units of credential coursework toward the 30 unit degree. When possible we form school district-based cohort programs in:
We also have a fully-online program for California credentialed teachers in Innovative Learning. This unique program brings practicing teachers together to explore new methods for leveraging digital-age media and technologies to improve and expand learning for students.
Credential completion degree programs can be completed in 3 semesters of study during which one elective and one research class is taken. Learn more about these programs by clicking the program brochure links to the right.
12 unit Teaching & Learning Degree for Touro University Credential Students
Touro University Credential students are automatically enrolled in the Master of Arts in Education degree program that expands their credential study. This Master’s emphasis included one 3 unit elective plus a three course sequence of research classes. Credential candidates who determine at the end of their program that they will be unable to complete the credential, may opt to apply to the 30 unit Teaching & Learning degree.
Touro credential candidate acceptance into any other Graduate School of Education Master’s degree program requires a separate application and acceptance process through the graduate studies chair. To help you find a program by the type of degree or credential you are interested in receiving, please search through our programs by your desired degree/credential type.
